NABLUS (Ma'an) -- A Palestinian detainee celebrated his engagement to a fellow prisoner's daughter in Israel's Ramon prison on Saturday, a prisoners' society said.
Maram Al-Natsha met her groom Abed Al-Khatib when she visited her father in prison, Ahrar prisoners' center said.
Al-Khatib, from Qaffin north of Tulkarem, is sentenced to nine years in prison, and the bride will live with her mother until his release, the center said.
The father of the bride, Naim Al-Natsha, is serving three life sentences.
The prisoners distributed sweets to celebrate the occasion, and the detainees said their applause infuriated the Israeli prison guards.
The groom's father, who is also imprisoned, said he was delighted to be able to attend his son's engagement, explaining that he missed the weddings of his other three sons.
Nain Al-Natsha did not ask for a dowry from the groom, whom he met two years ago, saying that he was sure Al-Khatib would take good care of his daughter, the center said.
Ahrar center director Fuad Al-Khafash said the happy event showed that Palestinians never lost hope.
