GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh in Gaza has invited influential Muslim scholar Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi to the Strip.
In a phone call on Saturday, Haniyeh congratulated the Egyptian-born cleric on the victory of the revolution which led the the toppling of former leader Hosni Mubarak, a Ma'an correspondent reported.
The Gaza-based premier thanked Al-Qaradawi for mentioning the Palestinian struggle, the occupation of Jerusalem and the siege of Gaza when he addressed crowds in Tahrir Square.
Al-Qaradawi delivered the Friday sermon in central Cairo as hundreds of thousands flocked to the square to celebrate, one week after Mubarak's regime collapsed under a popular revolt.
The sheikh is controversial in some Western nations for his views on Israel and homosexuality.
