GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- A Palestinian detained by Israel for 25 years said Saturday he hoped to live to see Palestinian unity and the establishment of an independent state, his lawyer said.
Ahmad Abdul Rahman Abu Hasira, from Gaza City, was detained in 1986 at the age of 27. His lawyer said he was charged with affiliation with the Islamic Jihad movement and opposing the occupation. He is serving a 35-year sentence.
Abu Hasira is a prominent Jihad leader inside the Israeli jail, and said he wished to visit the graves of all those who sacrificed their lives for the Palestinian cause.
His wife Najwa Abu Hasira appealed to Palestinian leaders to pay more attention to Palestinian prisoners detained by Israel, especially those who have been held for several decades.
