Algeria grants UK request for Khalifa ruling delay

2009-12-14

Algeria agreed to Britain's second request to delay billionaire swindler Rafik Khalifa's extradition, Tout sur l'Algerie quoted Justice Minister Tayeb Belaiz as saying on Sunday (December 13th). British authorities will issue a decision on January 29th.

In 2007, a Blida court sentenced Khalifa in absentia to life in prison on fraud charges surrounding Algeria's largest-ever financial scandal. He is also wanted in France on embezzlement charges and for alleged involvement in the collapse of Khalifa Airways, Antinéa Airlines and Khalifa Rent-a-Car.
