The extradition of corrupt tycoon Abdelmoumen Rafik Khalifa from England to his native Algeria faces another delay, AFP reported on Wednesday (March 31st). British Interior Minister Alan Johnson reportedly requested that the decision be postponed until April 30th.
In 2007, a Blida court sentenced Khalifa, who fled to London in 2003, to life imprisonment on fraud charges surrounding Algeria's largest-ever financial scandal. He is also wanted in France on embezzlement charges and for alleged involvement in the collapse of Khalifa Airways, Antinéa Airlines and Khalifa Rent-a-Car. Algeria's extradition request, however, takes precedence over that of France.
