Manila - Three gold miners were killed when a 24-meter-deep pit caved in on them in the northern Philippines, a police report said Thursday.
The accident occurred late Tuesday in Itogon town in Benguet province, 225 kilometers north of Manila.
At least 20 miners entered the mineshaft, but only six were at the bottom when mud and rocks crashed onto them, the police report said.
Three of the workers were rescued and rushed to hospital while the other three died at the scene, it said.
