Algeria, US sign customs accord

2010-12-03

Algeria and the US signed a customs co-operation agreement Thursday (December 2nd) in Algiers, El Watan reported. The accord strengthens mutual assistance between the two countries' customs administrations. It also provides for computerization and training partnerships.

Along with helping to promote trade, the agreement will enable Algeria and the US to "fight more effectively against customs offenses, through close collaboration in prevention, investigation and prosecution of fraud, money laundering and organized crime", Algerian Customs Director Mohamed Abdou Bouderbala said after the signing ceremony with US Ambassador David D. Pearce.
