Berlin - Germany on Wednesday promised to provide swift assistance in setting up a crisis unit in Haiti in the wake of a devastating earthquake in on the Caribbean country. "I am shocked by the scale of the emerging disaster," German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said after, a telephone call with his country's ambassador in Haiti.
"The federal government wants to support the Republic of Haiti with every possible kind of help," he said.
Germany is meanwhile trying to determine whether any of its Germans have been affected by the earthquake and what could be done to support affected areas.
