London - Britain is to send a team of experts to Haiti to assess the extent of humanitarian needs and stands ready to offer any assistance required, the government said Wednesday. A spokesman for the department for international development said it was "deeply concerned" about the reported scale of the earthquake."
However, there was as yet an incomplete picture of the extent of the damage and the assistance needed from the Haiti authorities, he said.
He said a humanitarian assessment team from the ministry would leave for Haiti later Wednesday. "We stand ready to provide whatever humanitarian assistance may be required."
