Washington/Baghdad - US Vice President Joe Biden made a surprise visit to Iraq on Friday to visit with US troops and hold talks with Iraqi government leaders, United Nations officials and US military commanders. Biden's meetings in Baghdad included Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, and the UN's special representative for Iraq, Ad Melkert, according to a statement released by Biden's office in Washington.
Biden expected to discuss preparations for national elections in March, as well as ongoing US and international efforts to restore security and rebuild Iraq's economy.
