Turkish, Saudi foreign ministers meet on Mideast peace

Riyadh - Visiting Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu held talks Saturday with his Saudi counterpart Prince Saudi al-Faisal, which focused in part on the stagnated Middle East peace process. "Riyadh and Ankara seek security and stability in the region and to achieve the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people," Davutoglu said.

The two minister, who convened their talks in Riyadh, also discussed bilateral relations, officials said after the meeting.

Davutoglu was expected to meet Saudi King Abdullah on Sunday, the last of a three-day trip, and discuss Turkey's position on Israeli-Syrian peace talks.

Turkey had hosted the talks, and was making progress, the sides said at the time, though negotiations were called off after the conflict in Gaza began in late 2008.

Davutoglu also met with Ekmaleldin Ehsanoglu, head of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, in Jeddah on Friday, during which they discussed the turmoil in Somalia and the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Darfur ahead of a donors' conference.
