Doha: The Prime Minister and Foreign Minister H E Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabor Al Thani will open on Wednesday a conference to support investment and development in the Republic of the Comoros to be hosted by Qatar in collaboration with the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) and the United Nations Fund for Development.
The conference will be part of efforts by Arab States, Islamic countries, organizations and charities and the business sector to support development in the least developed countries and third world states.
The conference will be attended by the Comoros President Ahmed Abdallah Sambi, the Secretaries-General of the Arab League, OIC, representative of the UN Secretary-General, ministers from Qatar and the Arab countries, ambassadors and senior officials from Islamic countries and donor countries at the international level as well as representatives from international organizations and associations Charities in the Arab and Islamic world and the representatives of the business communities.
Assistant Foreign Minister for Follow up Affairs and the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Conference Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi said the conference aims to provide grants and assistance to Comoros from states, charities and humanitarian organizations and private sector.
He added that development projects are focused on three sectors: infrastructure projects and areas of humanitarian and investment fields. He noted that the infrastructure projects cover the areas of roads and government buildings, institutions and airports as well as energy, water, transportation, health and education areas, besides agriculture. They also cover areas of investment made by companies and businessmen in the fields of of fishing, agriculture, energy and water, tourism, health, education and mining.
