Brussels/London- A long-planned visit of Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman to Brussels looks to be dominated by the row over the use of faked EU passports in a covert operation to kill a top Hamas official, diplomats said Friday. Lieberman is expected to arrive on Monday, the day when EU foreign ministers are to hold their regularly monthly meeting. But the passport row is not due to be discussed officially at EU level, with Lieberman set only to meet some European counterparts bilaterally.
"There is a problem between Israel and some EU countries, it has not yet become a crisis at European level," one high-ranking European diplomat told the German Press Agency dpa.
According to a second source, Lieberman's agenda on Monday includes talks with British Foreign Secretary David Miliband and Belgian Foreign Minister Stefan Vanackere, as well as a meeting with European Parliament president Jerzy Buzek.
In the evening, he is scheduled to have an "informal" dinner with the EU's foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton, an EU official added. The talks would focus on the Iran nuclear threat, the Middle East peace process and EU-Israel relations...
