Algeria has made human rights' progress since 2009, a visiting delegation of the African Commission of Human and Peoples' Rights (CADHP) announced Tuesday (December 21st) in Algiers. CADHP official Sylvie Kayitesi Zainabo noted "improvements" at various sites visited by the delegation, including El Harrach prison, a police station in Birtouta and a shelter for women in distress in Bousmail. The delegation also called on authorities to pursue efforts in order to tackle the problem of overcrowding in prisons. The human rights commissioners arrived in Algeria on December 13th upon the invitation of Algerian authorities.
