Algeria's Autonomous Union of Secondary and Technical Teachers (CNAPEST) agreed at a special week-end session in Algiers to hold a one-week strike before February 25th, El Watan reported on Monday (February 8th). Another prolonged walk-out could put students at risk of a potential "lost year", the daily noted.
Algerian primary, middle and secondary schools were seriously disrupted in November when autonomous teachers' unions CNAPEST, CLA and SNAPEST mounted a 3-week strike. The educators ended their action when government officials agreed to address their concerns over wages and benefits.
