At least two Afghan police officers have been killed after militants attacked a checkpoint in the western province of Badghis.
The incident took place in the Qadis district of Badghis, Afghan National Police spokesman Raouf Ahmadi said on Monday.
Three other officers are also missing, Ahmadi added.
There are currently more than 113,000 international troops deployed in Afghanistan. US President Barack Obama earlier announced a 30,000 troop surge.
Since the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001, there has been little sign of stability in the war-torn country.
Thousands of civilians and Afghan security forces have lost their lives during the eight-year conflict.
