Beirut - Clashes with rocket-propelled grenades and machine guns erupted Thursday in northern Lebanon between a family and a Sunni fundamentalist movement, wounding at least six people, the police said. Members of the Hassoun family and the Sunni Tawheed Movement clashed in the streets of the Abi Samara neighborhood in Tripoli, prompting the Lebanese army to intervene.
At least six people, four from the Hassoun family, were admitted to a hospital in northern Lebanon.
According to a witness, the tension started Wednesday night, when a group of people - reportedly members of the Sunni Islamic Tawhid Movement - opened fire at a car transporting members of the Hassoun family.
