Judiciary satisfied with the way polls were run

AMMAN (JT) - Prime Minister Samir Rifai on Thursday thanked the judiciary and the media for their role in conducting Tuesday’s parliamentary elections, which the government described as a big success in terms of integrity and organization.

During a meeting with President of the Higher Judicial Council Ratib Wazani at the Palace of Justice Thursday, Rifai underlined the role of judicial staff in the polls, stressing that the independence of the judicial system contributed to boosting the fairness and transparency of the parliamentary elections, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

For his part, Wazani indicated that the judges carried out their duties during the polls in line with the provisions of the law.

He pointed out that the jurists, who observed the government’s procedures throughout the election process, underlined that the “government treated all candidates on an equal footing”.

Also on Thursday, the premier, accompanied by Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications Ali Ayed, paid a visit to the Jordan News Agency, Petra, and met with its director, Ramadan Rawashdeh, and senior staff members.

Rifai expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the “objective and professional coverage of the elections by the agency’s staff”, Petra reported.

The premier also met with chief editors of major dailies and thanked them for their organizations’ coverage of the polls.

Noting that the new Parliament might convene before December 3, he described the polls as a great success.

Rifai told the top journalists that it is up to Parliament to accept or reject the temporary Elections Law, which was criticized for keeping the one-person, one-vote system...
