The Russian Defense Ministry has announced that Moscow has successfully launched a military satellite into space, according to Russian news agencies.
Spokesman for Russian Space Forces Alexei Zolotukhin said on Friday that a Russian Soyuz-U rocket delivered a Cosmos defense satellite into orbit.
This is the second time for Russia to launch a defense satellite this year, Ria Novosti reported.
In January, a Proton-M rocket delivered a Raduga military communications satellite into orbit from the Kazakh Baikonur cosmodrome.
Russia reportedly operates a system of 60-70 military satellites with reconnaissance abilities, missile early warning signals and other capabilities.
