The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) on Thursday said there will be no Palestinian statehood without the Gaza Strip.
"The statehood can not be established without the Gaza Strip," said Saeb Erekat, a Palestinian peace negotiator and a member of Fatah's central committee.
The Gaza Strip has been under Islamic Hamas movement's control since 2007 after the Islamists routed security forces of president Mahmoud Abbas and ousted his Fatah movement, boosting political split with the Fatah-ruled West Bank.
"If the Palestinians don't help themselves and end their split, no one will help them," Erekat added.
Earlier, a Palestinian lawmaker unveiled an upcoming U.S. plan calling for creating the Palestinian statehood in the West Bank until the PNA restores its control on the Gaza Strip.
Erekat said that the restoration of the Palestinian unity should be done via dialogue, urging the Palestinian factions to deal positively with Egypt's efforts to reconcile Hamas and Fatah.
