Algeria needs more teachers, UN report finds

2011-10-07

Algeria does not have enough teachers to ensure quality education for all school-age children, Liberte reported on Thursday (October 6th), citing a new report from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

According to the UNESCO study published Wednesday on the occasion of World Teachers' Day, Algeria has the same teacher shortfall as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE, Iraq, Oman, the United States, Spain, Italy and Sweden. UNESCO recommended that Algeria hire 10,000 new teachers by 2015 to meet the country's expected student population.
