The Hamas spokesperson says Israel is playing with fire in Jerusalem al-Quds.
"What is happening in Jerusalem [al-Quds] and the attacks against the al-Aqsa Mosque are Israeli crimes that have gone beyond all red lines. The results of such attacks will be extremely dangerous. Israel is playing with fire," the Ma'an news agency quoted Sami Abu Zuhri as saying on Tuesday.
The Hamas spokesman also called on Palestinians and the Arab world to prevent Israeli attacks on holy sites.
"The Arab world should pave the way for resistance, as the US-backed negotiations have foundered due to Israel's announcement that settlement construction will continue in Jerusalem [al-Quds]," Zuhri noted.
Hundreds of Palestinians clashed with Israeli security forces in al-Quds on Tuesday in response to plans for the construction of more Jewish housing in the predominantly Arab eastern sector of the city and the decision to renovate a synagogue in the Old City near the al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
The protesters set tires and garbage bins ablaze and hurled rocks at Israeli riot police, who responded with rubber bullets and tear gas. The violence spread from Arab neighborhood to Arab neighborhood across the eastern side of Jerusalem al-Quds.
Over 100 Palestinians were injured and about 60 protesters were arrested in demonstrations on Tuesday.
