CAIRO, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Egypt's Foreign Ministry warned on Thursday that any move to challenge the country's national security will face "consequences."
The warning came one day after Egyptian security forces and Palestinians clashed at Rafah border between Egypt and Gaza Strip. An Egyptian border guard was shot dead in the turmoil.
"For those who hurled insults at Egypt on the other side of the border with the Palestinian territories, time will come for them to be repaid by their own people," Foreign Ministry spokesman Hossam Zaki said in a statement.
Egypt's patience has a limit and that every attempt to provoke the Egyptian security will have its dire consequences, he added.
A 22-year-old Egyptian soldier was shot dead by a Palestinian sniper on borders with the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, when Egyptian security forces and Palestinians clashed over the delay of an aid convoy of the British-based Viva Palestina group into the enclave. The incident also left at least five Palestinians wounded.
Earlier on Tuesday night, clashes erupted between the Egyptian security forces and the aid activists after Cairo refused to allow some of the 198 aid trucks to pass through Rafah.
