A total of 16,000 Iraqis have been granted asylum last year by EU countries which is equivalent to 22 percent of the total number of asylum-seekers.
According to the EU's statistical office Eurostat, only 76,320 asylum applications out of a total of 281,120 across the EU have been successful.
After Iraqis, the largest groups to get EU asylum were from Somalia (12 percent), Russia (10 percent) and Afghanistan (7 percent), the BBC reported.
France granted asylum to the largest number (11,500), followed by Germany (10,700) and the UK (10,200).
Greece took in the smallest number with less than 1 percent of the total number of asylum-seekers.
Most of the Iraqis settled in Germany and Sweden, while Italy took in the largest number of Somalis.
