The Iraqi prime minister says he wants to give US companies "an opportunity" to invest in Iraq as the country is rebuilding its war-battered agriculture, oil, and tourism sectors.
Nuri al-Maliki, accompanied by executives from 200 businesses and officials overseeing some 750 projects in all economic sectors, is currently visiting the US in a bid to revive Iraq's war-battered economy.
Following his talks with Maliki during a two-day business and investment conference, US President Barack Obama said on Tuesday that it was a positive sign that the topics of discussions are moving now to issues beyond security and "we are beginning to talk about economy, trade and commerce."
"There are obviously enormous opportunities for our countries to do business together," Obama said.
Maliki expressed optimism that US-Iraq ties would help provide prosperity for the Iraqi people.
