Kuala Lumpur - A Malaysian court on Friday charged a man with the murder of his Indonesian maid, who died after allegedly being abused. The magistrate's court in the central Klang district charged 35-year-old A. Murugan with murdering Mautik Hani, 36, at his home, the official Bernama news agency said.
Mautik, who comes from Surabaya, was rescued on October 19 after being locked in a toilet for two days. She was rushed to a hospital with wounds and bruises on her face and body.
Mautik died Monday, three days after slipping into a coma.
Murugan did not record a plea, and the judge fixed Tuesday for further mention of the case.
Police said Mautik, who was believed to have been working for two months, did not have any valid travel documents when she was found.
Malaysia is home to 320,000 maids, of which about 85 per cent are from Indonesia.
