China aims to build a moderately well-developed railway network by 2012, with a total operation length of 110,000 kilometers and more than 50 percent electrification rate and Double-track rate.
By the end of 2008, the total length of China's railway had reached 161,100 kilometers, with an operation length of 80,000 kilometers.
Now, over 10,000 kilometers of railway passenger dedicated line is under construction.
By 2012, China will complete the inter-city railway system in densely populated areas such as Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta and Bohai Rim.
